Abomination Speech, The
After incidents like the defeat of Keilhaard in the Carpathian pass made it clear that the Makers were more fact than legend, Brother Marachai's status as a demagogue exploded. In defiance of the will of the Patriarchiat, Marachai shed his orders and, proclaiming himself a provincial Bishop, left Alban's and installed himself as Promulgate at Seraphim on the Hill.
The Patriarchiat, fearing that such an open show of defiance would be an irrecoverable blow to their power in the region, immediately "promoted" Marachai on paper to accord with his self-proclaimed position. The move was calculated to maintain the appearence of control while the inner sanctum prepared a doctrinal response to the mounting evidence of "the so-called Makers". The promotion enraged Marachai, and the next day he delivered his famous Abomination Speech from the steps of Seraph before a crowd of thousands. In fiery invective he denounced the Patriarchiat and called "brothers of the faith" to "carve out the unclean tongues of the wicked" and "exorsise the abomination among us". Many of the orignal Firebrands were present at this speech.
